Lisa’s work experience with us

in News

Ever wondered what it’s like to work in a PR agency? We welcome work experience placements throughout the year. Here’s Lisa’s story…

Lisa - work experience

After graduating from university in 2013 with a degree in Fashion Marketing I decided I wanted to travel the world. But when returning to the real world I found myself wondering what comes next? A career – with an academic background and strong interest in public relations I approached Reflection PR hoping to gain insight into the workings of a PR agency.

Working at Reflection PR was an exciting and rewarding experience. It’s shown me all the different aspects involved in working in PR and how varied the role can be.

Whilst at Reflection PR, I had some great opportunities. In many work experience placements, photocopying and tea making tend to be perceived as essential duties, however this was certainly not the case for me. I was able to complete a variety of tasks from writing blog posts for clients to ringing up magazine editors about potential features to creating media lists.

The highlight of my week was being able to contribute ideas for a new client in the fashion industry. As a former fashion marketing student, I was in my element being responsible for researching bloggers and publications we could approach about featuring our client. This gave me insight on how important collecting the right research is a crucial aspect of PR to ensure you are reaching your target market.

I think the most rewarding experience while at Reflection PR was seeing blog posts I had written go live online. I received positive feedback on a blog post I wrote about social media as it was shared by many on twitter and hopefully had people thinking about how well they use social media.

Even though I was only at Reflection PR for a short while, the experience has been thoroughly enjoyable and fulfilling. Thank you to Suzy and Amanda for welcoming me into your team for the week. Not only did you allow me to be part of discussions about clients and future campaigns, but you gave me the chance to see firsthand what is involved in a PR agency.
